Resolved Question: Hey brides! What do you look for in a wedding venue?

My FH and I are looking to start up a wedding venue, De Mariée Gardens (French for bridal). We have about 2 acres of private gardens that include a rose arbor, a gazebo, and a balcony that overlooks a river with a bridge spanning the river. It's very old-fashioned, with lanterns, benches, arches, and even a swing or two scattered throughout. We're trying to make the venue as appealing to brides as possible by building dressing rooms, making our walkways more accessible to larger parties, purchasing an enclosed tent in case of inclement weather, providing up to 200 chairs, extra tables, some decorations, and more. What we need now is feedback. every you past, gift, and future brides out there, I know this is bare information, but what do you think? Any suggestions or thoughts would be very appreciated, along with how much you would consider paying for something like this. We don't know what the going rate is, and we want to be affordable because we had a devil of a time affording our possess wedding. We are considering charging $1,000 for ceremonies on Fridays and Saturdays, $750 for every other days. This would include chairs, tables, and decorations. We're a bit tentative on receptions right now, not sure if we'll receive the funding for the building, but we will offer discounts when they book the reception with a local vendor. Is this fair? To start off we're probably only going to offer a ceremony site. But there are 5 receptions venues within 5 minutes. Would you still consider this venue? Or should we just wait to open 'til we can offer both?

Resolved Question: May I share two of my favourite Henry Lawson poems with you guys?

Do You Think That I Do Not Know? (1910) They say that I never have written of adore, As a writer of songs should do; They say that I never could touch the strings With a touch that is firm and true; They say I know nothing of women and men In the fields where adore's roses grow, And they say I must write with a halting pen Do you think that I do not know? When the adore-burst came, like an English Spring, In days when our hair was brown, And the hem of her skirt was a sacred thing And her hair was an angel's crown. The shock when another man touched her arm, Where the dancers sat round in a row; The wish and despair, and the untrue alarm Do you think that I do not know? By the arbour lights on the western farms, You remember the question put, While you held her warm in your quivering arms And you trembled from head to foot. The electric shock from her finger tips, And the murmuring answer low, The soft, shy yielding of warm red lips Do you think that I do not know? She was buried at Brighton, where Gordon sleeps, When I was a world away; And the unhappy old garden its secret keeps, For nobody knows to-day. She left a message for me to read, Where the wild wide oceans flow; Do you know how the heart of a man can bleed Do you think that I do not know? I stood by the grave where the dead girl lies, When the sunlit scenes were fair, And the white clouds high in the autumn skies, And I answered the message there. But the haunting words of the dead to me Shall go wherever I go. She lives in the Marriage that Might Have Been Do you think that I do not know? They sneer or scoff, and they pray or groan, And the untrue pal plays his part. Do you think that the blackguard who drinks alone Knows aught of a pure girl's heart? Knows aught of the first pure adore of a boy With his warm young blood aglow, Knows aught of the thrill of the world-old joy Do you think that I do not know? They say that I never have written of adore, They say that my heart is such That finer feelings are far over; But a writer may know too much. There are darkest depths in the brightest nights, When the clustering stars hang low; There are things it would break his strong heart to write Do you think that I do not know? In The Day's When We Are Dead (1908) hear! The end draws nearer, Nearer the morning—or night— And I look with a vision clearer That the beginning was right! These shall be words to remember When every has been done and said, And my fame is a dying ember In the days when I am dead. hear! We wrote in sorrow, And we wrote by candle light; We took no heed of the morrow, And I think that we were right— (To-morrow, but not the day after, And I think that we were right). We wrote of a world that was human And we wrote of blood that was red, For a child, or a man, or a lady— Remember when we are dead. hear! We wrote not for money, And hear! We wrote not for fame— We wrote for the milk and the honey Of Kindness, and not for a name. We paused not, nor faltered for any, Though many fell back where we led; We wrote of the few for the many— Remember when we are dead. We suffered as few men suffer, Yet laughed as few men giggle; We grin as the road grows rougher, And a bitterer cup we quaff. We lived for Right and for Laughter, And we fought for a Nation ahead— Remember it, friends, hereafter, In the years when I am dead— For to-morrow and not the day after, For ourselves, and a Nation ahead. Stephen I noticed a lot of anti-war references in quite a few of his poems.

Resolved Question: What do you think of this fictional setting for my story?

Rushdoon, a country nowhere found on a map, or any earthly map. It is a totalitarian-theocratic militaristic government with streaks of capitalism and patriarchy. Ruled by an official Sacred King, along with religious advisors and generals. Their national colors are white, yellow and red, and their symbols are a great mountain with a half golden sun around it, and the golden winged horse. Men wore waist-length shirts with waistcoats, thin trousers and wooden shoes. Women wore sheer headdresses, elbow-length sleeved shirt with buttons, long dresses and leather shoes. Rushdoon's main religion is Onolatry, their god is called Alexaman, a donkey king. They religion permits slavery, racism, patriarchy, and forbids public schooling and would execute anyone who murdered, stole, blasphemed or even lied. The wealthy are seen as blessed, while the needy are jeered and sneered at. Often seeing them lazy and corrupt in their dirty rags while the wealthy are seen as angelic with their silks and jewels. Rushdoon is lavished with mountains, forests, fields, orchards, rivers, arbors with gardens of white roses, glades and ravines. Its capital is Rous, a hilly city surmounted by spires, pinnacles, turrets, temples, the palace, while the city below is a mass of archways, arcades, terraces and colonnades.

Resolved Question: How can I improve this paragraph to make it more descriptive?

In the garden, there are paths leading in every directions. One leads to a comfortable arbor that you can sit below and just read a good book. A birdbath shaped like a blossomed blossom sits at the end of another path. Many birds perch on the rim of the birdbath and chirp like it's the most beautiful day. I wrote this little paragraph, but I think it can be better. Can you help me revise it to make it more visual and like paint a picture?

Resolved Question: can I build an expanding arbor?

I wish to build a cedar garden arbor that is 4' wide at the rear and 5' wide in the front. It will be used as an entrance to a vegetable garden from a blossom garden in the corner of our lot. The corner shape is similar to a baseball field with the entrance in middle field. I believe an arbor that angles outward would look better than a traditional rectangular one. If I angle the base posts I should be able attach the first set of top planks along the sides of the base posts and they will be flush. From there I should be able to make angled cuts in the bottom of the 2nd set of planks so they smoothly slot on top the first set of planks. The top row would be spindles angling outward from the rear of the arbor towards the front. Can anyone think of a reason that this plan would not work? I do not have any arbor building experience, but then I have had limited experience on a host of other jobs around the home and have completed them correctly. Thanks!

It can grow up to 6 feet tall, and wide along the fence, but not too difficult to trim and climb over to my neiborgh garden. Resolved Question: Can arbor vitae bushes recover from drought?

I had to be away from my home last summer, as my mom died. The 5 weeks I was gone, we hardly got any rain. Mid Jun -July ( I didnt even need to mow --except to tidy things up some ! ) Anyway, the 2 arbor vitae bushes are about 7 feet and turned every brown. One stayed green, that is protected by the home shade more. Im not sure how to proceed. Remove them ? clip them back ? Will they pop sprout again and grow ? Ive babied them ,and they were so pretty but there are priorities in life. Theyre really an eyesore now. I clip off one tiny segment and the stem looked woody. I dont know if its greenish stem to start with tho. Summer humidity level about 46% http://www.garden.org/zipzone/index.php?img=seusa Shows Im in zone 6b on this map here -if that matters

Resolved Question: Microphone during wedding ceremony?

We just picked out our venue, I adore it, its beautiful and perfect!!! It will be an outdoor ceremony, and we can chose to receive married at any spot in the gardens. There is a big, (probably 30 foot long) pond with an arbor at the end of it. We are considering getting married below the arbor with our friends and family gathered around the pond. Problem is that the people on the far end of the pond wont be able to hear us. My step mom suggested that we use a microphone. I just didn't know if that was cheesy. What, would we pass the microphone back and forth as we say our vows? Its really the best spot in the garden, we think, and we'd adore to do it there, but I just didn't know if it was odd to use a microphone or if we should pick a different spot? Marti- Everyone should be able to look fine, its a pond, so the area is flat, and the arbor is on a raised platform. Its nice more like a little porch. But I'm glad you said that, because I wonder if people on the sides of the pond would have their view blocked by the sides of the arbor. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

Resolved Question: School Freebies for Arbor Day....?

I am the head director for our school's garden program. This is my first year as the head person and I am pushing to make some very important changes. For past 15 yrs. the kids were asked to bring in a plant to plant outside and after they are finished planting the kids were offered ice cream. Now I have several issues with the process but the main ones I am addressing at the next PTA meeting are the fact that we are battling child obesity as a national problem so I want to give the kids something after they are finished planting besides an ice cream and the second is the school asking for plants to be brought in by the kids often leads to a mixture of indoor/outdoor plants and even some that are not native to MI. I am hoping to find information on weather or not the Arbor Day Assoc. will provide my school with seed packages that I can disperse in place of the ice cream and I would be interested in any informational leaf-lettes I could pass out with ways kids can contribute to the efforts that we focus on during Arbor day. Is there a link to the ARBOR DAY ASSOC. or a phone number where I can obtain freebie's for our school's planting day?

Resolved Question: How many of you take the time to grow and cultivate and harvest the foods you eat?

What about the wild animals, do you leave some of the produce behind for them to gleen? I ask because that is a Big part of my life, on 1 acre of land I have planted and cultivate a pear, 2 apple, 1 plum and 1 apricot tree. I have a butternut tree (white walnut), blueberry bushes, a big grape arbor with table and wine grapes growing on it and I grow a big vegetable garden from May through October. This is my way of keeping a tiny carbon footprint on the earth. I was just wondering, since vegetarian/vegans are so concerned with the well being of life are they as concerned with taking the steps to personally care for their possess in a self sustaining manner. This is not a critical question so PLEASE don't receive offended. Not meaning to boast but my son also makes maple syrup from our 3 tree's (enough for ourselves and close friends and family) and I lift my possess beautiful free range hens. I do leave plenty of vegetation for the woodland animals and take great pleasure in watching them eat, but only after I have harvested. It's not nearly as fun to look a gopher eating the butternut squash before I've had a chance to taste it. Everything I grow is organic, I would never use insecticides or pesticides on my land. Garden bugs are fed to the hens and lady bug and praying mantises take care of my fruit trees. Grandma, I hear you. I don't have nearly the number of wild animals you have and only the hens are allowed in the garden after harvest. The wild animals help themselves to fruits and nuts that fall from the tree. Smedrik, I have a mulberry tree also, it makes great wine!

Resolved Question: How to reclaim very old abandoned grape vine?

I am renovating a home in central France and there is an old abandoned grape vine (the trunk is about 5 inches in diameter) that snakes across the ground. It has re-rooted in several places. I want to receive it up against a wall but it's difficult to tell where it begins since it is rooted in several areas. It seems to be one huge, long trunk. Part of this trunk snakes close to a wall and part of it is rooted too far into the main part of the garden. Where do I even start? I am a complete beginner here. I am told by the locals that it used to be trained on a beautiful arbor. It still produces grapes in the summer in it's wild state. The property had been abandoned for at least 20 years. Thanks for any advice. I do know that now is the time of year that neighbors have pruned their vineyards. Thank you for the responses so far. There is one long vine that is loose (only rooted in one place) this one I can train on laterals along the wall... Any ideas about what I should do with the other parts of the vine that are attached by roots at intervals... This part of the vine looks to be the oldest (I'm guessing just because it is the thickest part). Thanks again for any feedback... Karen

Resolved Question: Rate and critique my poem please?

Hi guys! I made this poem for my parents for xmas and wanted you guys to rate it and help me find a name for it. Please give me some tips and rate! You encouraged me to grow, To be individual, myself, To bloom in the heart and mind, To bear sweet fruit of kindness and respect. You taught me to prosper, No matter where I was planted, To understand the world around me. Pruning away the imperfections, Giving the green more space to grow, You watered me in morals and virtues, Raising my once tiny sprig into a field of flowers. You placed me in the light, And created a sanctuary where I could be pollinated with hugs, kisses and comforting words. You understood when I grew thorns of wrong, And quickly removed them with adore. You never lost wish in me, When I let myself be enveloped with parasitic anger, You simply bathed me in reason to repel the darkness. You guided me through the twists and turns, Through the arbor of life, Making sure I didn’t stray from the path. Seasons will pass, And soon before you, I will be a glorious garden that speaks of your good works. every because of your willingness to tend a young naïve sprig. Thank you for nurturing me. Thanks!

Resolved Question: I missed a package that may have been important, what do I do?

So about 2 weeks ago i was outside staining the deck and I look the mail truck tug every the way up the driveway and drop off a flat, kinda thin brown package underneath the arbor of my garden. I notice, and decide to finish the spot i was working on staining, and then bring it inside. When I went to bring it inside, it was gone. I looked every over my yard thinking maybe my dogs took it for a run and tore it up...but they were inside. After looking for a long time I gave up, and never mentioned it to my parents, partially because I forgot and the other part because I was a wimp. So now two weeks have passed and my brother still hasn't gotten notification if he has been accepted into grad school or not....it just dawned on me...I wish SO much that that package wasn't it....I mean, don't letters usually arrive in the mail not in a package? I mean, the last 'official' letter he got from this college was in a big white padded envelope not a brown flat package i believe....still, i feel terrible guilt and i dont know what to do. Is there any way to find online if we were supposed to receive a package? HELPPPPP me...

Resolved Question: Outdoor wedding ceremony suggestions for an Atlanta bride?

We want an outdoor wedding and indoor reception - I've found a great place for the reception now we just need a place to receive hitched! Looking for any outdoor ceremony ideas besides the Botanical Gardens, where the actual ceremony site at the Rose Garden was less ornate than I'd like, especially for the price. I'd prefer something along the lines of a trellis, arbor or gazebo, or less expensive than the Gardens, and as close to the Atlantic Station area as possible.

Resolved Question: First MTG deck. How good is it?

Greatings! As an aspirant to a great planeswalker, now I give the first steps on my way. So that, I choosed to play a green/blue deck, starting by buying the Zendikar's Unstable Terrain and the Worldwake's Mysterious Realms. Following is the list of my current deck cards: Blue: 2 Sage Owl 1 Tideforce Elemental 3 Calcite Snapper 1 Gomazoa 1 Horizon Drake 2 Living Tsunami 1 Sphinx of Jwar Isle 1 Roil Elemental 1 Unsummon 1 Telepathy 1 Wind Zendikon 1 Ior Ruin Expedition 2 AEther Tradewinds (this is one of those to make possible to play continuously lands) 1 Paralyzing Grasp 1 Mysteries of the Deep 1 Mind Control 1 Vapor Snare Green: 2 Frontier Guide 1 Snapping Creeper 1 Turntimber Basilisk 1 Grazing Gladehart 1 Summit Apes 1 Territorial Baloth 2 Baloth Woodcrasher 1 Giant Grouth 1 Harrow 1 Baloth Cage Trap (maybe have a better place on Sidedeck) Black: (I found that, whith the easier way to search for land on the library, I could use some black power) Death's Shadow Artifacts: 1 Adventuring Gear 1 Walking Atlas 1 Pilgrim's Eye 1 Seer's Sundial Lands: 8 Islands 8 Forests 1 Swamp 2 Halimar Depths 1 Khalni Garden 1 Terramorphic Expanse This is what I have right now. Althowgh, I'm thinking on acquiring the following ones: Gorgon Flail Scute Mob Oracle of Mul Daya Lotus Cobra Sylvan Basilisk Lure Bountiful Harvest Fog Disorient Spellbook Garruk Wildspeaker Cancel Ior Ruin Expedition Explore Leatherback Baloth Dread Statuary Vastwood Zendikon Beastmaster Ascension Eternity Vessel Molimo, Maro-Sorcerer Avenger of Zendikar Amulet of Vigor Blanchwood Armor Cryptic Command Khalni Heart Expedition Rampaging Baloths Battlefield Scrounger Arbor Elf Jace, the Mind Sculptor (Worldwake) Omnath, Locus of Mana Strength of the Tajuru High Tide Bond of Agony Dead Reckoning My idea is to have most of the times lands entering the battlefield, even on the oponents turn, like with the ability of Walking Atlas, in order to activate landfall abilities. It is also obvious the wish to semi-control. I would also have to receive better early game green creatures, as this colour has the better ones. So, rating? :)

Resolved Question: Future Venues for WrestleMania (UPDATE!)?

Okay, so a few months back I suggested a few picks for where WrestleMania will be held in the coming years, so I decided to update it a bit; It's clear to every of you where WrestleMania XXVIII will be held, (More than likely, it will be Toronto's Rogers middle or Vancouver's BC Place Stadium) so I'll start with WrestleMania XXIX (29). WrestleMania XXIX- The Superdome in New Orleans, LA. 72,000 strong will attend. WrestleMania 30- Madison Square Garden, New York City. Don't expect the attendance to be but about 25,000 at the most, because MSG isn't really big. WrestleMania 31- The Metrodome, Minneapolis, MN. If the roof is fixed up by then, and the winters aren't as brutal as this one, the Metrodome should be good to go, as a crowd of 76,000 look on to watch the spectacle of sports entertainment unfold. WrestleMania XXXII- Wembley Stadium, London, England. For the first time since the 1991 SummerSlam, a major event is coming to the United Kingdom. More than 100,000 screaming wrestling fanatics from around the world attend this unprecedentedly epic event, probably the biggest of the 21st century. WrestleMania X3I3- Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC. (Finally! An event I can actually afford to go to!!) Expect a crowd of 55,000 strong. WrestleMania XXXIV- Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, TX. Nearly 97,900 attend to look it every go down. WrestleMania 35- Ann Arbor, Michigan's Big home. Without a doubt, the biggest American event in history. 111,000 will attend, breaking the indoor attendance world record. WrestleMania 2020- Univ. of Arizona Stadium in Glendale. For the first time in 10 years, the state of Arizona witnesses an epic phenomenon of amazing proportions. That's as far as I'll go with that. Anyone care to comment?
