Voting Question: what are the literary devices in 'having a coke with you'?

im really bad at detecting the literary devices and i need to do this with Frank O'Hara's 'having a coke with you' can someone please receive me started? heres the poem. Having a Coke with You is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irún, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona partly because in your orange shirt you look like a better happier St. Sebastian partly because of my adore for you, partly because of your adore for yoghurt partly because of the fluorescent orange tulips around the birches partly because of the secrecy our smiles take on before people and statuary it is difficult to believe when I’m with you that there can be anything as still as solemn as unpleasantly definitive as statuary when right in front of it in the warm New York 4 o’clock light we are drifting back and forth between each other like a tree breathing through its spectacles and the portrait show seems to have no faces in it at every, just paint you suddenly wonder why in the world anyone ever did them I look at you and I would rather look at you than every the portraits in the world except possibly for the Polish Rider occasionally and anyway it’s in the Frick which thank heavens you haven’t gone to yet so we can go together the first time and the fact that you move so beautifully more or less takes care of Futurism just as at home I never think of the Nude Descending a Staircase or at a rehearsal a single drawing of Leonardo or Michelangelo that used to wow me and what good does every the research of the Impressionists do them when they never got the right person to stand close the tree when the sun sank or for that matter Marino Marini when he didn’t pick the rider as carefully as the horse it seems they were every cheated of some marvelous experience which is not going to go wasted on me which is why I am telling you about it

Resolved Question: Am I to old for this girl?

I have been talking to this girl for a while now over the phone through text messaging and we call each other sometimes, and I'm going to be taking her out to places soon, but I'm beginning to think I may be to old for her. You look I'm 17 and I thought she was 14 for a while, but now I know she's 12 about to be 13... But I really like her, we have so much in common its crazy, I really do have feelings for her, and I really don't want to end it. I told her that If we receive into a relationship that there would be NO sex at least until she's 16 (because of the fact that I don't think someone should have sex until their at least 16 and I don't want to be charged with statuary rape) , and she agreed to it... I told her I still want to kiss her though, and she is very glad on that note. I know her parents wont care, but I still feel a bit weird about it, should I go through with it? BTW I'm not a perv trying to use her for sex or anything like 99% of the guys at my school would, If I wanted sex I could receive it else where :/. I respect her and care for her a lot...

Resolved Question: I really don't understand this, could you help me analyse it?

Suddenly he awoke and was running - raw In raw-seamed hot khaki, his sweat heavy, Stumbling across a field of clods towards a green hedge That dazzled with rifle flame, hearing Bullets smacking the belly out of the air - He lugged a rifle numb as a smashed arm; The patriotic tear that had brimmed in his eye Sweating like molten iron from the centre of his chest, - In bewilderment then he almost stopped - In what icy clockwork of the stars and the nations Was he the hand pointing that second? He was running Like a man who has jumped up in the dark and runs Listening between his footfalls for the reason Of his still running, and his foot hung like Statuary in mid-stride. Then the shot-slashed furrows Threw up a yellow hare that rolled like a flame And crawled in a threshing circle, its mouth wide Open silent, its eyes standing out. He plunged past with his bayonet toward the green hedge, King, honour, human dignity, etcetera Dropped like luxuries in a yelling alarm To receive out of that blue crackling air His terror’s touchy dynamite. its by ted hughes

Statuary In tribute to every trav'lers who by name and deed remain unknown but lately make this land their possess, a stately hollow statue stands Which signifies how emptiness assumes the hardness of a wall around where bits and pieces fall from mediocre daily lives. Each gaze that sweeps across the face without a sign of what it sees ignores its primal sob with equal ease but never finds itself therein. Resolved Question: What is the difference between the Catholics Statuary, and Jehovah's Witnesses Watchtower?

The Catholics pray through what the statue "represents", when they pray to God....some feel that the statures represent a tool to help them pray. The Jehovah's Witnesses believe they should pray before opening their new Watchtower Magazines, so God will bless them by revealing the message from the watchtower. What is the difference ? JW's revere their "Discreet and Faithful Slave" as well as their "Governing Body", as well as their properties in Brooklyn, and their printing presses...the magazines are another source of prideful veneration.. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjWWMUYd.O.BPasaQQKISCzty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20111125130844AA9GSTC When they lose their watchtowers and awakes, they will be naked. Voting Question: Why do cons want kids to drop out of high school?

Republicans vow to protect high school dropouts from Barack Obama By Chris Moody | The Ticket – 5 hrs ago Email 4 Print President Barack Obama delivers his State of the Union address Tuesday. (J. Scott Applewhite/AP) WASHINGTON -- High school dropouts, do not fear. The Republican Party will protect you from Barack Obama's efforts to keep you at your desk. At his third State of the Union Address Tuesday night, the president challenged every states to ban kids from dropping out of high school before they turn 18. "Tonight," Obama bellowed, "I am proposing that every state--every state--requires that every students stay in high school until they graduate or turn 18." Obama wasn't proposing a new federal program, but his use of the bully pulpit to tell local jurisdictions how to run their school districts was enough to make some Republicans, already sensitive to the increasing role of the federal government in education over the past few years, bristle. "That's none of his business!" said Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee while speaking to reporters after the speech. "He's not a principal! He's not a public school teacher! He's not a governor, he's not a mayor. These are matters for state and local government." Standing in Statuary Hall outside the home chamber, Lee, a senator whose rise to prominence was propelled by the tea party, went on to say that there was plenty in Obama's speech that made him want to scream, but he held his tongue. "I did not want to be Joe Wilson!" Lee said. Meanwhile, Joe Wilson, who shouted "You Lie!" during a presidential address in 2009, was standing directly behind him, about three feet away. Regulations on school attendance varies from state to state. Twenty states currently meet Obama's standards by restricting students from dropping out before they turn 18-years-old. Some states allow students to drop out at 16 with parental permission and others require an agreement from the school to let them go. According to the National middle for Education Statistics, 8.1 percent of students nationwide dropped out of high school in 2009. Other Republicans in the crowded hall, fed up with Obama's calls for a more intrusive federal system, lambasted the president for even making the suggestion. "What are you gonna do, give them the electric seat?" asked Arizona Republican Trent Franks. "It should be handled on the parental level." Phil Gingrey, a Republican from Georgia, agreed, saying students should have the right to leave if they want to. "To require them to stay in high school to age 18, those who have absolutely no intention of getting an education or value an education are disrupting the other kids in class. I think it's just a government misguided run amok quote honestly," Gingrey said. There was, however, one Republican willing to stand up for Obama's call: High school dropout Darrell Issa, chairman of the home Oversight Committee. Issa, who left high school when he was 17-years-old to join the Army, took Obama's call to mean that the federal government should look into ways to encourage states to lift their age limits on dropping out, and he's fully behind it. "I agree with him," Issa said. "The truth is that maintaining students from dropping out until they're 18, and every possible inducement, rather than getting rid of them at the first possible moment because they become a 'pest,' because perhaps they're not performing well. That could make a real difference in the level of education people receive. Do I promote it? Yes." "Leave no child behind?" he said. "That has a familiar ring to me as a Republican."

Resolved Question: Louisiana Age Consent Laws. Please help ASAP. ?

Okay so I've been reading about statuary rape laws in Louisiana. This is because I am 17 born May 9th 1994 and my boyfriend is 19 born August 25th 1992. His mom won't allow us to date because she is scared of the legal aspects! I read that in Louisiana the legal age of consent is 17 and it's okay for me and him to be together since he is only 2 years older then me. He kissed me and his mom thinks it could put him in jail. So I need to know, from someone who -really- knows! is it legal for 17 year old me to be with my 19 year old boyfriend? Could he receive in trouble with the law for being physically affectionate with me? Please answer only if you are absolutely sure you are right. I would prefer answers from police or lawyers or anyone that would -truly- know about this sort of thing. It is only 5 months until I'm 18 but I want to make sure that I will not receive my boyfriend into trouble, I would never forgive myself. Thank you for your time.

Resolved Question: if title deeds were lost & a statuary declaration was made after the owner died , how would be interpret this?

my grandfather died in 2003, and although he owned the property, it was not registered at the time of his death. In 2005 it was registered in the executrix name, as the deeds were lost. The registry was supported by a statuary declaration, which had the wording that stated the widow had discussed the registry with the solicitor, and referred to it as "her tardy husband's property". We know the property was never held in joint names, or there is no evidence to prove this to date, but the widow is claiming 50%. Would you interpret this stat declaration that it was in his name only, or a joint property? wish that means sense. He left a will leaving his share and interest to his kids, with a life interest to the widow. Property was build by his farther, and remained in his sole name, although the deeds were lost by the solicitors! solicitors agree that property was in his sole name when he died

So my bf just turned 19. We started going out when he was 18. I'm 16 and I 2ill be 17 soon. The thing is we plan on having sex. But he is 19. We know about the whole statuary rape thing but really does it count? I will be 17 in less than 2 months plus we were together BEFORE he turned 19. Will it still count as stat. rape?

Voting Question: Poetry help, please!?

I am being asked to compare how the poets gift death in 'arrive on arrive back' by Stevie Smith, and another poem from my anthology, which I have chosen to do 'Bayonet Charge' which is mainly because I think they have similar views on death, here's a copy of both of the poems. arrive on, arrive back by Stevie Smith (incident in a future war) Left by the ebbing tide of battle On the field of Austerlitz The girl soldier Vaudevue sits Her fingers tap the ground, she is alone At midnight in the moonlight she is sitting alone on a round flat rock. Graded by the Memel Conference first Of every human exterminators M L 5 Has left her just alive Only her memory is dead for evermore. She fears and cries, Ah me, why am I here? Sitting alone on a round flat rock on a hummock there. Rising, staggering, over the ground she goes Over the seeming miles of rutted meadow To the margin of a lake The sand beneath her feet Is icy and wet and firm to the waves' beat. Quickly - as a child, an idiot, as one without memory - She strips her uniform off, strips, stands and lunges Into the icy waters of the adorable lake. On the surface of the water lies A ribbon of white moonlight The waters on either side of the moony track Are black as her mind, Her mind is as secret from her As the water on which she swims, As secret as profound as ominous. Weeping bitterly for her ominous mind, her plight, Up the river of white moonlight she swims Until a treacherous undercurrent Seizing her in an icy amorous embrace Dives with her, swiftly severing The waters which close over her head. An foe sentinel Finding the abandoned clothes Waits for the swimmer's return ('arrive on, arrive back') Waiting, whiling away the hour Whittling a shepherd's pipe from the hollow reeds. In the chill light of dawn Ring out the pipe's wild notes 'arrive on, arrive back.' Vaudevue In the swift and subtle current's close embrace Sleeps on, stirs not, hears not the familiar tune Favourite of every the troops of every the armies Favourite of Vaudevue For she had sung it too Marching to Austerlitz, 'arrive on, arrive back' This is the copy of 'Bayonet Charge' Suddenly he awoke and was running – raw In raw – seamed hot khaki, his sweat heavy, Stumbling across a field of clods towards a green hedge That dazzled with rifle flame, hearing Bullets smacking the belly out of the air – He lugged a rifle numb as a smashed arm; The patriotic tear that had brimmed in his eye Sweating the molten iron from the centre of his chest, - In bewilderment then he almost stopped – In what icy clockwork of the stars and the nations Was he the hand pointing at that second? He was running Like a man who has jumped up in the dark and runs Listening between his footfalls for the reason Of his still running, and his foot hung like Statuary in mid-stride. Then the shot-slashed furrows Threw up a yellow hare that rolled like a flame And crawled in threshing circle, its mouth wide Open silent, its eyes standing out. He plunged past with his bayonet towards the green hedge, King, honour, human dignity, etcetera Dropped like luxuries in yelling alarm To receive out of that blue crackling air His terror’s touchy dynamite. This is to help me for my revision for an upcoming exam, please help me with this, I am so bad at poetry :( Thank you in advance :)

Resolved Question: Rental Property help ?

I am the tenant of a rental property, but there has never been any rental agreement I am in the state of California, the rental owners have never repaired anything, there has never been any record of anything, though we have a good deal with them for a monthly price, we have lived here for four years the place was pretty trashed when we moved in we have made major repairs on the place to make it comfortable to live in, including repairing floors & walls Paint replaced parts on the sinks and toilets even a mouse infestation at one point, up keep on the yards and the many tree's that are here, and only because they refuse to repair anything themselfs well we now have a septic tank issue and the Plumber says we need to be connected to city sewage because the tank is over 40 years old and it just wont work any more, we have sewage water draining into the yard, and to me and many others this would be a major issue, well the land lord is dragging there feet and it has been 3 almost 4 weeks now, I even had to connect a hose from the washer to drain into the yard so it wouldn't go into the septic ! if we pay for this which will run about 5000.00 + dollars I want to possess the home not rent it, I know California has a statuary period of time were if you take up residence for a period of years you can become owner of it...... is there any legal guru's out there who can advise me on this ?

Resolved Question: 15 and pregnant. Help ?

Back in June I found out I was pregnant. Today I am 25 weeks along. I am 15 years old and my boyfriend of a year and 3 months and the baby's dad is 17 years old. We live in Massachusetts and I know there is the statuary rape law. I have yet to tell my mom about the pregnancy because she has always threatened me that if I receive pregnant my boyfriend will be in jail. I literally sob my eyes out every night about this cause its a day closer to her knowing and the possible chance he will go to jail. I do everything to make sure this baby is healthy. I eat right, I have a local pregnancy clinic right close my home we go to. My biggest fear is my boyfriend will go to jail and I'll be raising this baby on my possess, which I can't do. My boyfriend is the one with the job, I can not find one at every I have applied a million times. Without him this baby will have nothing he needs. I grew up without a dad and I know how it feels and I don't want our child to go through every the pain and hurt I went through. Very soon my mom is going to find out. My belly is noticeable already and I can't keep it a secret forever. arrive February the baby will be here. Any help on what I should do about this? And please don't judge because of our age. We take full respectability of what we have done. -Thanks The age of consent is 16. I am 15 so I am not able to have sex legally. he is over 16 so he can legally have sex, but with someone over the age of 16. So since im 15 and he is 17 its considered rape. Also he is Spanish and I am white and my mom don't like that. She thinks whites should date whites. And when she found out we were dating we couldn't have any contact for over 4 months. I had to sneak to talk to him.

Voting Question: My GF is 14 and am 18 and she wants to do things illegal or not?

My GF is 14 and am 18 and we both really like each other a lot and now she wants to do sexual things so is it illegal or not but what happens if she gives her permission to prove that it wasn't rape or statuary rape as she gave permission so isn't that ok? I know this sounds wrong but it isn't anything like that at every well both really adore each other According to the CPS in summary, a man who is considerably older that the girl is likely to be prosecuted, especially if he owed her a duty of care; whereas it may not be necessary to prosecute a young man with whom the girl has been having a consensual relationship. So i don't know. We really do adore each other and i can wait until she is old enough because i respect her Thanks for your replies even if some are stupid. I live in the UK

What is imperialism? Imperialism is defined in The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001, as the extension of rule or influence by one government, nation, or society over another. The system, policies, or practices of such a government. Cite two examples of imperialism from the history text and discuss them. Imperialism in any age gives rise to art (painting, sculpture, architecture, statuary)celebrating and glorifying the conquering nation. Find two examples of this type of art from any time period and discuss it. You may look at modern or ancient examples. This question will require outside research. Please do not post anything telling me to do my possess homework, as you have no idea how much homework that I do myself. I have every A's, but history is extremely difficult for me. Resolved Question: Do concrete statues tend to lose their heads?

I know that concrete is not the best choice for statuary, but what's done was done 90 years ago so there's no going back. We have a Civil War monument in our city park that just lost his head. Everyone assumes that this was the result of vandalism, but I was wondering if concrete statues just have a limited life expectancy anyway. The statue is out in the open among the trees, subject to every kinds of weather. The head is (was) about 15 feet or more over the ground, so it would not be an easy target for a projectile that would hit it with enough force to break it off. Could the head have fallen due to natural causes? The head is missing, but I thought that maybe someone took it home for a souvenir or tossed it into a nearby lake. While we're at it, maybe you can comment on the service life of various other materials, like marble or granite, used below similar conditions. Thanks. Here's the statue, if you want to look it... http://www.nj.com/cumberland/index.ssf/2011/12/headless_bridgeton_civil_war_s.html @MM: I know from observation that marble tombstone are not legible after about 200 years. Sometimes I can photograph them from a sharp angle to make shadows and do the CSI thing in photoshop. I'll bet granite will hold up for 1,000 years or more on a vertical gravestone. It's a shame that the military uses marble for grave markers. @CC: You will always be pretty. The camera lies. @Mike: An earlier article identified it as concrete. I went to take a look and I noticed that the rifle has been broken for a while, judging from the dark color of the "wound." I just learned that this was a mass produced concrete statue. I suppose there was quite a market for them in the years following the Civil War. This one was erected in 1915. @Betty: Γεια σας

Resolved Question: Help, my Landlord has served a Section 21?

My Landlord has served is with a Section 21 and we have therefore contacted the council as we will be homeless. It is unlikely we will private rent again due to the admin and advanced rent fees which we cannot afford and we have needy credit, we cannot live with family as my partner's family are statuary overcrowded and my family are about to lose their home due to my Mum losing her employment (she was the breadwinner). The Landlord has served this in retaliation to us involving the council etc when a National Grid engineer visited and found that our Boiler was not safe, furthermore the Gas Safety Check had not been done prior to the Tenancy start (be trusted it had, despite not having a copy). On visiting the council also found 2 further Category 2 Hazards. The Landlord threatened notice within 5mins of the council ringing him then bought the Notice over 2 days after they sent him a written notice. He is stating that it is due to rent arrears though, I arranged a meeting with him to discuss arrears etc with witnesses gift and he would not go through figures receipts etc but instead took a copy of my working out away and not mentioned it since. The council have today issued him a questionnaire about the reasons for the Section 21, i suppose to establish why this has happened and if we have made ourselves homeless. I am wondering what is likely to happen if he does make things difficult and how long this will take? Does anyone know the type of things that are asked etc? Seriously worried we could end up with no home nor any help!!

Resolved Question: Would you really turn him in?

I've been curious about this lately, I am not in this situation, but my pal's brother was. He's seventeen, his girlfriend is fourteen and she got pregnant. Her parents wanted to send him to jail until they foun out that where they lived, their daughter could end up in just as much trouble. Let's say your daughter got pregnant as a teenager (14+) and she wanted to keep the baby. The dad was older, not like by 20 years but by three years or more, no more than five years or so. The sex they had was consensual. He wanted to be there for the child. Would you turn him in for statuary rape? Or would you rather your grandchild have a dad? In my opinion, if it wasn't like a massively huge age difference and if he wanted to be around, I wouldn't press charges. But if he was refusing to possess up and be a dad or even pay support, then I would press charges. I'm not a parent, this is just my thinking. I'm curious on other parents' thoughts. No fighting or rude comments please. Let's respect opinions. I am not going through this. My pal's brother did. Luckily, as I said, he won't be going to jail because if he did, so would his girlfriend. He's not even legally an adult (he's seventeen) there was just a three year age difference. ι'м тнє gιяℓ: I do believe you on that. I know it varies from state to state and I don't think they would've married you if it hadn't been legal. I'm sorry your husband was almost arrested for that.
